Oysters!

When I was in high school, a group of us went to Knysna for a school holiday trip. It was during this trip that I tried my first oyster and decided it was going to be my last. Now I admit I tend to eat some odd things and in the past have eaten snails (a number of times and a favourite starter of mine), mopane worm (while on a trip to Zimbabwe and had to try the local cuisine) and various other shellfish, but there is something about oysters that I don’t particularly like. Well, my decision to never have another oyster was thwarted on Friday (25th August), when I was treated to a meal at a seafood restaurant (Loch Fyne) by my friends, for looking after their cat Kappa (see earlier entry). As starters we ordered a salad, some squid (my order) and some oysters (definitely NOT my order). I was offered some oyster and “no thanks” wasn’t going to be accepted, so I tried one for the second time (I am willing to admit that my tastes can change so am willing to try things a second time if need be) and again decided that oysters are not my cup of tea! Thanks but no thanks. I was very happy to have had a glass of water by my side and my plate of scrumptious food in front of me to remove the taste of the oyster! They were enjoyed though, which is a good thing, at least they weren’t wasted! The main meals were good too and I thoroughly enjoyed my evening. Thanks for the treat guys!
